Planet Apocalypse

$140.00 CAD

Hell has risen. Humanity nears extinction. It is up to your tattered band of champions to save the world! Planet Apocalypse is an exciting co-operative game for 1-5 players. You are post-apocalypse heroes confronting the hordes of hell! Every game is different, and every game is tense, as you battle demons from the circles of hell, and in the end strive to take down their demon lord! Send Hell back whence it came! Planet Apocalypse was designed by Sandy Petersen, one of the best-known designers in the horror game field. In 1993, he was a key designer for the ground-breaking video game Doom. In 2015, he released Cthulhu Wars. Now he returns to the topic of apocalyptic horror. The art and style of the game was all created by Keith Thompson, whose work is well-known in both films and games.

Cthulhu Wars is Highly Strategic

Every round in Cthulhu Wars you make key decisions. Every move your opponents make is of interest. When you unlock a Spellbook, move a unit, or launch an attack, there are always ramifications. The interplay between players is vigorous and decisive - you are always confronting and fighting against the other players, not the game system itself. The player must keep track of his own faction's abilities and how to win, but must also look to the competing strategies of his rivals.

Cthulhu Wars is Fast

Despite the depth, Cthulhu Wars is fast for a miniature heavy strategy game – interesting decisions can be made from the very beginning. For a four player game, it usually takes about 90 minutes, including setup. The game also ramps up quickly - it is common to see the massive Great Old One figures summoned during the very second Action Phase!

Play all the way to 12 at your table!

The Cthulhu Wars core game includes four playable Factions, and so is only 2-4 players. However, the map of earth contained therein can support up to 5 players - if you have a playable Faction expansion. There are 12 total playable Factions for Cthulhu Wars. Every expansion map has versions going up to 8 players, and an earth map that can play 9 to 12!

Drenched in Theme

Cthulhu Wars is designed by Sandy Petersen, the author of the first ever Lovecraft game, the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game. Cthulhu Wars includes the most famous and canonical Lovecraftian entities in 28mm scale (so you can use them for role-playing games!). The abilities and powers of each Faction and unit recall key elements of the Cthulhu Mythos. However, you don’t need to know anything about Cthulhu in order to have a blast playing this strategy game!

Highly Asymmetrical

Cthulhu Wars is groundbreaking in its level of asymmetry. No two Factions have the same Monsters, Great Old Ones or Abilities at their disposal so each plays incredibly different. The game has been balanced over years of playtest so that despite the magnitude of differences between Factions any combination or matchup is a fair game.

Choose Your Faction

Endless Replayability

Not only is each Faction very different from all the others, but each presents a multitude of tactical options by itself! Every Faction has unique spellbooks representing new abilities and actions they can perform. These are gained like video game achievements in which you must meet a requirement first. However, requirements are not tied to any particular Spellbook. This means that your strategy is highly variable and dependent on which order you fulfill the requirements as well as which order you choose to take each Spellbook. As a result, playing the same Faction twice can be a very different experience!
